1. Khuswanth Singh Passes Away.

     Renowned writer and journalist  Khuswanth Singh passes away at the age of 99 at Delhi.He was the founder editor of Yojna and also served as editor in Hindustan Times, and National Herald.He was born on 2nd February 1915 in Haldi(now in Pakistan)



2. Ibibo buys 51% share in Yourbus.com.

    Online Travel firm ibibo.com owned by South Africa based Naspers bought 51% stakes in Yourbus.com.
Ibibo , which owns Goibibo.com and redbus.in etc is all set to become the largest online travel operators in India.


3.SEBI inaugurated its local office in Ranchi 
,Jharkand.


4. MI-17 V5 introduced in Indian Airforce.

    Russian made   MI-17 V5 series helicopters were inducted into IAF on 19 march at Jamnagar in Gujrat ,the copters are famous for their maneuvering weight carrying capacity will obviously prove advantageous for the force.

1.Karnataka won Vijay Hazare Trophy 2013-14.

     Karnataka won the Vijay Hazare trophy beating railways at Eden gardens ,Kolkata. .Abhimanyu Mithun of karnataka   named as the man of the match.Karnataka has already won the Ranji Trophy and Irani Trophy earlier in 2014.

2. DK Jain Passes Away.

     DK Jain, Chairman of  Luxor Group, leading pen manufacturer of the country passed away.. Luxor group brought the internationally renowned brands like parker,pilot and waterman .


3.  Ekhon Nedekha Nadir Xiparee Won Audience Choice Award.

     Assamese thriller film  Ekhon Nedekha Nadir Xiparee ,meaning as  river flows won the audience choice award in North California Film festival.The film has also been selected for the NewYork Indian film festival.

4.   India Ranked 4th in Microsoft report on spam E-mails.

     India Ranked fourth in the list of maximum number of spam email generators released by Microsoft corporation.The US,China ,and The UK tops the list.


5. Mandate of UNAMA extended for another year.

   UN security council extended the mandate of United Nations Assistance mission in Afghanistan for another year till 17th march 2015.Mandate of UNAMA is focused on local ownership ,leadership in security,governance and development in Afghanistan.
UNAMA was constituted in 2002 to help Afghan in Peace keeping and development.

1.Novak Djokovic won BNP Paribas Open Final .

    Novak Djokovic won BNP Paribas open final in Indian wells ATP  tennis masters in California by defeating Roger Federer.
   Womwn's Singles : Italy's Flavia Penetta defeated Agneiska Radwanska.


2. France introduced driving restrictions in Paris.

      Inorder to tackle dangerous pollution levels in the city of Paris France has imposed driving restrictions,drivers are allowed to use cars only on alternate days,according to odd or even number on licence plates.The emission levels have raised due to the heavy subsidy on diesel and large population of small cars .

3. Rani-Ki-Vav and GHNP nominated for UNESCO world heritage sites.

       India nominated Rani_Ki_Vav ,Gujarat and Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) in Himachal Pradesh for Unesco's World heritage site status 2014.GHNP is known for its bio diversity and the other is the 11th century step well in Gujarat.The final decision will be taken at the World Heritage Committee that will Convene in Doha,Qatar.


4. India becomes the largest arms Importer.

      Based on the data released by Stockholm international peace research institute (SIPRI),India emerged as the largest importer of arms.China & Pakistan is just behind in 2nd and 3rd positions. The volume of import has raised by 14 pc during the period 2009-13.Russia is the major supplier accounting 75pc of the imports.

5. Infosys ties up with Volvo.

      Indian IT giant Infosys ties up with Volvo cars in supply of application development surfaces for its operations.The works will include support and maintenance of  applications for sales,marketing,production,and corporate business functions.

6. Federal Bank launches"Namma Metro Transit cum Debit card".

         In Partnership with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRC) ,Federal Bank launches Namma Metro Transit cum Debit card", which gives a 15 to 20 ps discount on fares and can be charged at specified stations,through SMS and net banking etc. The Visa branded card will have provision for shopping and withdrawal of upto  rupees 75,000.

7.Russia Suspended from G-8.

    France ,today announce the suspension of Russia from the G-8 nations amid the issues over5 Ukraine and Crimea. The remaining seven nations have already taken steps to cancel the G-8 summit scheduled to held in Sochi ,June this year.

1 .Sachin Tendulkar elected cricketer of the generation.

      The legendary batsman Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar,elected Cricketer of the Generation by a 50 member jury.He overtook Australian spinner Shane Warne and All Rounder Jacques Kallis . The title was initiated to mark the 20th Anniversary of ESPNcricinfo.


2. Yet Another Indian CEO

      NOKIA, likely to pick Rajeev Suri as next Chief Executive Officer(CEO).The Indian born is widely considered as the leading candidate to drive the Finnish firm.He is presently serving as head of NOKIA's telecom network equipment division.


3. Templeton prize 2014 goes to Thomas Halik.

      Czech Priest Thomas Halik won this year's templeton prize for his works aimed at seekers(not affiliated to a religion or atheism).The award established in 1972 by Sir John Templeton is the highest annual award in terms of cash in the world( 1.1 mn Euro)
      First Winner : Mother Theresa ( 1973)



4.  IOCL sold 10% Government stake.

       Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) sold 10% government stakes worth 5340 crore rupees,
 to Oil India Limited (OIL) and state owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) . The government share on IOCL has brought down to 68.92 pc from 78.92 pc earlier.
