Daily Update - 30,31st march 2014

1.18th SAARC summit to be held in Nepal.
    
      Kathmandu,the Capital of Nepal will hold the 18th SAARC(South Asian Assosciation for regional co operation) summit from 14th November,date is subjected to approval from member nations.
SAARC is now having 8 member nations viz India,Maldives,Nepal,Pakistan,Bangladesh,Bhutan,Sri lanka and Afghanisthan.


2. Djokovic beats Rafael Nadal.

     
     Novak Djokovic won the Miami open title defeating top seed Rafael Nadal.


3.World Telecommunication Conference starts in Dubai.

   World Telecommunication conference,organised by International Telecommunication Organisation(ITO) with a theme of Broadband for sustainable development begins in Dubai.Delegates from India led by telecom secretary will be attending the conference.

4. Malaysian Grand Prix For Hamilton.

   Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton of Britain won Malaysian Grand Prix in Se pang, Malaysia by defeating his team mate Nico Roseberg(Mercedes)

5.'Polling at your finger tips'

  Polling at your finger tips service launched in Shillong,Meghalaya.Under this service voters will recieve details of their polling station,timings and date by sending and SMS to 9856066666.The move by the state election commission hopes to bring more voters to polling station.

6.BHEL to set up 120 MW hydel project in Uttarakhand.

    Bharat heavy electrical limited(BHEL) will set up a  120 MW hydro electric power project in Uttarakhand.They signed a contract of 125 crore with Uttarakhand Jalvidyut Nigam Ltd for their Vyasi Hydro electric project .The contract include design,manufacture,supply,installation and commission of hydro generator sets and associated works.

1.West Zone Won Deodar Trophy 2014.

      West Zone, won the Deodar cricket trophy 2014 defeating North Zone at YS Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam,this 50 over interzone knockout tournament is named after Prof: DB Deodhar,popularly known as grand old man of Indian cricket.Five zonal teams,North,South,East,West and Central zone will participate in the tournament.


2.Super Hercules Aircraft C-130J crashed in Rajasthan.

   Super Hercules Aircraft C-130J of the Indian Air Force crashed in Rajasthan,5 crew including four officers were killed.six  C 130J including the ill fated one were bought from the US for 6000  crore rupees,they can carry up to 20 tonnes of load and even land and take off from short run ways,Defence
ministry has ordered a high level inquiry in to  the incident.

3.Tata Teleservices launched Wi Fi Business.

    Tata Teleservices Limited (TTL) launched new Wi Fi business in Chennai.Wi Fi scratch cards will be sold through retail outlets to monetize the service,it can be used at Tata Docomo hotspots across India.


4. Earth Hour Observed.

     To raise awareness about environmental issues Earth Hour was observed across 7000 cities and towns the world by switching off non -essential lights from 8.30 to 9.30 pm on 29th march.The event organized by WWF marked its beginning at Sydney in 2007.



5. Silver Medal for Heena Sidhu.

    Indian Air Pistol Shooter ,World no: 2 Heena Sidhu clinched a silver medal at ISSF world cup in Fort Benning ,USA.She now holds the record of maximum medal in a world cup by an Indian pistol shooter.





6.First ever miniature planet with two rings discovered.

    Astronomers of the Neils Bohr institute discovered first ever miniature planet Charkilo with two rings,of ice and pebbles between Saturn and Uranus is the first ever discovery of celestial body with rings like Saturn.


7.NATO gets new secretary General.



    Jens Stolenberg appointed as secretary General of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).He will replace Anders Fogh ,former PM of Denmark and will take charge from 1 October 2014.
Nato is an intergovernmental military alliance of North Atlantic countries with 28 members,it encourages consultation and co operation on defence and security issue.

1.World Water Day Observed.

     World Water Day observed on 22nd march to preserve and control the consumption of water.United Nations conference on Environment and development (UNCED) initiates the observation of this day for promoting sustainable management of water resources.


2. Officers honored with keerthi Chakra.


   Three officers of the Armed forces were honored with the second highest gallantry award.
       1. Wg: Cdr Darryl Castelino : Received award posthumously for his role in operation rahat,where his chopper crashed with 20 members after he saved more than 80 lives.
      2. Maj. Mahesh Kumar :  For his acts in countering insurgency in Jammu & Kashmir.       3. Cdr. Abhilash Tomy : For his completing world voyage on his sail ship non-stop in 151 days.

3. RBI notifies guidelines for early detection and recovery of bad loans.

    RBI notifies NBFCs and other financial institutions to categorize loans into special mention accounts  before a loan turns into NPA
   (A) . SMA 0 :A/C overdue not more than 30 days but facing stress.
   (B) SMA 1:  principal/interest overdue between 31-60 days.
   (c)  SMA 2 : Principal/interest overdue for 61-180 days
However NPA should be held by concerned banks for a period of 12 months before selling it to other financial institution or NBFC.

4. Aamir Khan to become national icon for LS polls.

       Bollywood star Aamir khan agreed election commission to become the national icon for the coming lok sabha polls.He will co-operate with ECs voter awareness initiatives and leads the media campaign.He will join existing icons DR APJ Abdul Kalam,MS Dhoni ,Saina Nehwal ,and Boxer Mary Kom.


5. Government of India divested 9 percent stakes in Axis Bank.  
 
    Government of India divested 9 percent stake which amounts to 5500 crore rupees  in Axis Bank. GoI,earlier had 20.72 percentage stakes through specified undertaking of unit trust of India(SUUTI)
It will remain the largest shareholder with 11.72% followed by LIC.

6. World's largest TV Unveiled.

   Panasonic unveiled world's largest television Big Hoss at Texas motor speed highway ,US.The screen is 218 feet wide and 94.6 feet tall,which makes it taller than a seven storied building and longer than Boeing 767 flight.

1. World Forestry Day Observed.

       World forestry day was observed on 21st march to increase public awareness about values of forests. United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (UNFAO) on 1971 declared 21st march as world forestry day.


2. RBI Deputy governor KC Chakraborthy resigns.

        KC Chakraborthy ,deputy governor of the RBI resigns from office,3 months ahead of completion of his term.He was appointed in 2009 and extended his tenure in 2012,earlier he served as the CMD of Punjab National Bank(PNB)

3. Indian Journalist won Google digital activism Award.

       Indian Journalist Subranshu Choudhary won the digital activism award 2014 for regional news service defeating US whistle blower Edward Snowden.The award was given for his work using mobile phones to bring local news to tribals region in their native language.He is also the founder of CGnet swara that enbles tribals in Chattisgarh to connect to outside world.

4. Chinese insurance firm offered smog insurance.

       State owned insurance company ping An insurance  offere smog insurance for tourists and natives of six highly polluted cities Beijing,Shangai,Guangzhou,Xian,Chengdu and Harbin.Smog insurance will pay compensation for those who are plagued by smog,compensation will be based on air quality index(AQI)

5. RBI issued notice to banks concerning discontinuation of Windows XP.

 

  Reserve Bank of India raised concern over the threat expected to face from discontinuation of windows XP by Microsoft corporation from 8th April,Withdrawal will stop release of updates and patches for the OS, which will make it more vulnerable to virus attacks.In India most of the banking system are running on windows XP.

1. Chattisgarh government ordered high level inquiry in Sukma maoist attack.
       
          Govt: of Chattisgarh ordered high level inquiry in maoist attack on security forces near Tongpalin,Sukma district. Mr.RK Vij ,Additional Director General of Police(Naxal operations) will lead the team.

2. Michelle Bachelet,sworn in as president of Chile for the second term in Vasparasiso.In the Presidential election held in December 2013 she won 62 pc vote against 38 pc vote won by conservative leader Everlyn Mathei.

3.Justice Srikrishna appointed as Chairman of FPSB ( Financial Planing Standard Board of India).He was a retired Supreme Court Judge and formerly the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court.

4.Google launched indoor maps in India.

        Google indoor maps that would help users to access detailed floor plans of several commercial buildings like airports shopping Malls etc..The service will be available for Android and iOS users.



5.Mr. Vince Chabria to be the first Indian-American Judge in California,at present he is the Deputy Attorney at the SanFransisco City

5. World's longest aircraft Airlander manufactured by Hybrid air vehicles Ltd(HAV) unvieled in Britain.

6.Union Government announced to build 200 low cost airports in next 20 years. The project aims at expanding conectivity to tier ii and tier iii cities.

7. New zealand to hold referendum on changiing national flag,announced by PM of Newzealand John key.

9. Joe Mcginnis ,author of Fatal Vision and other non fiction and novels died at Umass Medical center in Woscescler,died due to prostrate cancer.
